Guidelines for Midterm Presentations on October 4 & 11

Each group will pick a topic related to the subject matter of the class to explore in more depth and present a 12-15 minute presentation on. Subjects should be limited to material covered during the first four weeks of class. These include: technology/design & values, remix culture, regulation and commodification, file sharing, and expertise/collective knowledge.

The presentation should draw on the research work being done during the afternoon exercises and reflect critical engagement/analysis with the topic. It is important that the presentation not simply be a recitation of findings ("here is what we saw") but show some analysis. Think about what is at stake in what you have observed. What is interesting about it? Why does knowing "x" matter? How has what your group found connect to previous research on the subject, including things we have read?

Ultimately the goal of this assignment is for groups to both share interesting things they have been noting during exploratory work and demonstrate a critical engagement with the issues of the course. Groups will have access to the computer (PowerPoint & net), LCD projector and a short Q&A period will follow each presentation.
