POPL 2013 and the ITU

The PLS group at ITU have had 4 papers accepted at the next POPL conference, which is outstanding. We asked Professor Lars Birkedal from the PLS group about POPL, and what makes this particular conference so prestigious. Here’s what he said:

“POPL is the premier conference in programming languages - it is the conference with highest impact in the programming language/software engineering field of computer science and is among the top 10 conferences in all of computer science (according to http://arnetminer.org/page/conference-rank/html/Conference.html).”

“All top researchers in programming languages submit their best works to POPL.”

“The selection process is highly competitive: this year, 233 papers were submitted and 43 papers were accepted for presentation at the conference.”

“In many countries, because of the above, POPL papers are very important for researchers’ careers.”

“Many top researchers come to the POPL conference and therefore it is an excellent place to present one’s work, and it is also an excellent place to meet and discuss research with other researchers from around the world. If I could only attend one conference a year, POPL would be the one.”

“It is very important for PLS researchers to be present at POPL and present our work there. It is important both for individuals, but also for the group as a whole.”
