More foreigners want to study at the IT University

It is hard to draw qualified workers to Denmark, but the students come flocking. The IT University of Copenhagen has received 57 percent more quota 2 applications than last year, and more and more of the aspiring candidates come from abroad.

After counting ended, the undergraduate programs at the IT University received 348 Quota 2 applications compared to 2010's 221, an increase of 57 percent.
Moreover, the number of candidates with other nationality than Danish increased significantly - especially on the newest bachelor education, Global Business Informatics, which is offered in English. Here, a total of 48 out of 88 candidates have a foreign nationality. Applications come from all parts of the world - from countries such as China, the U.S. and Pakistan. All in all a development that Head of Study Administration at the IT University, Trine Eltang, is very satisfied with:

- We are delighted with the great number of applicants, because it is a commitment that young people have spotted the opportunities in taking an IT education as a direct ticket to a work life with many different career opportunities - both in Denmark and globally. I think the diversity of opportunities offered by an IT education is one of the main reasons that we are seeing a steady increase in the number of applicants, says Trine Eltang.

Fierce international competition
The increase in foreign applications also pleases the Head of Study Administration as a global perspective on education is an essential element in the education of future IT professionals. At the moment, nearly one in four students at the IT University is from another country than Denmark, but the trend is towards an even larger share of foreigners in Denmark's youngest university:

- The fact that more foreign students are entering the IT University is an indication that we are keeping a high level, even compared to the fierce international competition. We are also very pleased that our newest, globally oriented education, Global Business Informatics, attracts so many foreign students because the IT-supported collaboration across borders and cultures is a hub of education, says Trine Eltang.

Candidates who are accepted onto the bachelor program at the IT University will begin their studies in September 2011.
