Getting there and around
When you arrive, do take a few days to get acquainted with the city before starting classes. If you feel lost in any way, or just want to inquire about the easiest way to get to where you are going, please do not hesitate to ask the Copenhagen people for assistance and directions: Practically everyone speaks English!
Getting around on a bike
Almost all Danes have a bike and use it on a daily basis. Bikes are the preferred means of transport for students in Copenhagen, and the special made paths for cyclists, makes it both easy and cheap to get around.
Copenhagen is a biking city. Cheap second hand bikes can be bought on police auctions or at various bike venders. Prices start at 500 DKK but most cost between 1.000 and 1.500 DKK; and usually include a one year warranty.
Bikes are easy to sell again when you leave Denmark. Buy a good lock and if you are insured make sure the lock is approved by Dansk Varefakta. Ask at the bike vender’s. Also remember to buy lights for your bike. A red one in the back and a white, yellow or blue one in the front. You risk getting fined if you bike without lights when it’s dark.
Stop at red lights! You can be fined if you don’t and the going rate is around 600 DKK.

Arriving by plane
If you arrive by plane, you arrive in Copenhagen International Airport Kastrup, which is located 8 kilometres south of the city centre in the area of Amager. You can get from the airport to the city by metro, train, bus or taxi. The ride from the airport to the city centre takes about 15 minutes. Before getting on the train or metro, you need to purchase a ticket at the ticket stand (the train company is called DSB) located in the airport terminal. The ticket costs around DKK 20-30. When you arrive in the city centre you may decide to continue on the train or metro (see below) or get a bus or taxi depending on where you are going to stay.
Bus
If you are going to live in the southern part of Copenhagen, it may be more convenient to get a bus from the airport, as you do not need to get all the way to the city centre. Bus number 250S runs from the airport. A ticket costs around DKK 30 (for 3 zones) and can be purchased on the bus. Note that busses do not accept credit cards; you need cash. There are ATMs at the airport.
Taxi
A taxi fare from the airport to the city centre costs around DKK 250. Note that in taxis in Denmark, the metre will start at a certain fixed rate and run as you drive. It is usually not possible to negotiate with the driver regarding the price of the fare. Taxi fares include service charges and therefore you are usually not expected to tip.
