Health insurance and CPR number

Everyone residing in Denmark needs to register at the municipal civil registration office. A couple of weeks after you have registered you will receive a CPR number and a social security card, and have the right to health insurance services as well as hospital assistance.

The yellow health insurance certificate shows your name, address, CPR number and the name of your assigned doctor, and it documents that you are covered by the public health insurance.

If you need to see a doctor you must make an appointment in advance and always bring the yellow health insurance certificate.

Non-EU/EEA citizens
Please note that residents from countries outside the EU are not entitled to public health insurance until 6 weeks after arrival.

In case of emergency you should call 112 to contact the police, ambulance or fire brigade.
