The presentation will cover mile-stone research achievements from other other groups as well as the most recent results from his own group. The preliminary title is: Quantitative MR Imaging of Synovial Joints in Health and Disease.
Dr. Eckstein was born in Freiburg (Germany) in 1964 and studied Medicine at Freiburg, Heidelberg, Bristol, Innsbruck, and Montpellier. He trained in Anatomy at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) München and became lecturer at LMU in 1997. In 2004 he became director of the Institute of Anatomy and Musculoskeletal Research at Paracelsus Private Medical University in Salzburg, Austria. His focus of research focus is joint, cartilage and bone morphology and mechanics, and the use of imaging methods for quantitative assessment of tissue status in osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. Dr. Eckstein was president of the German Society of Biomechanics through 2002 and 2003. He is founder of Chondrometrics GmbH, a company specialized in providing medical image analysis service, and is currently Secretary General and part of the executive committee of the Ostearthritis Research Society International (OARSI).
