Celebrations!

I am in a weird and wonderful state of disbelief; after more than five years of study, I finally had my last exam. My thesis partner, Maria, and I defended our thesis earlier today, on knowledge transfer in communities of practice, as the culmination of our MSc., hereby ending months of stress and frustration. Now, I cannot wait to celebrate the good result with everyone back in Bristol. Thank you for all your kind words of support :-)

Keith's Stag do

Berit's still in Denmark studying for her final exams so I went down to Cornwall last weekend mainly to help Keith, my old mate from St Austell Sixth Form College, celebrate his stag do but also to check out how Mum's getting along trying to sell the house. Claremont, our lovely old family home, is now on the market and you can check it out by clicking on www.bradleys-estate-agents.co.uk

Keith's stag day was mostly spent at Lusty Glaze Beach and outdoor adventure centre on the Newquay coast. This consisted mainly of surfing, in which I found out quite how un-fit I actually am (although I did manage to stand up once or twice). There was also a trip down a rather awsome zip-wire that extends across the beach (see pics). We stayed on the beach in the evening, eating at the Kahuna Blue bar and restaurant, which was also situated on the beach, watching dolphins play in the surf and drinking way too far past the sunset!

A fantastic day (apart from a burnt nose), much thanks must go to Mark, Keith's best man (1st on the left of the 1st pic) for organising it all! Berit and I will next see Keith when he finally makes an honest man of himself by wedding the wonderful Lucy on the 7th August :-)

Reunion

I am back in Denmark for the next three weeks to finish my exams. And last night I met up with 12 old classmates from elementary school and a former teacher to celebrate our 10 year reunion.

It was a fantastic evening, beautifully organised by two very special girls, Anne Mette and Tine, whom I haven’t seen in years. After drinks, we sat down to a wonderful meal, wine and dessert accompanied by musical classics from the late 80s and early 90s. And we couldn’t stop talking. It’s surprising how much you still remember from those years, and how much everything is still a part of you, and it was fantastic to reminiscence about school trips abroad, general outings and that unique all-girl cocktail party. Although, we all looked a little different from 10 years ago, we agreed that maybe we hadn’t changed that much after all. Still, we were growing up. A few had become parents, were engaged or married, and some had moved abroad. We had been an important part of each others’ lives for ten years, and I am confident that I had the best class mates anyone could have wished for.

Close encounters of the feathered kind

We made good use of the warm and sunny weather today, and took the MGA to Bath. After a stroll around the old city centre and a light lunch at the pub, cathing first half of England v Iceland (3-1 halftime), we headed back to Bristol via the country lanes of Chew Valley.

While the sun had disappeared in the garden by the time we got back, the roof terrace was still bathed in warm sunshine from a blue sky, and we rushed up - after grabbing a chilled bottle of wine! Only minutes later, we were sunbathing and watching air balloons taking off from Ashton Court. It wasn't long before we were joined by a young sparrow (or blackbird, we weren't sure) who spent a good 3 or so minutes examining us with not a hint of fear, which was pretty strange, it even tried to land on us a couple of times! It turned out that we were being sized up for potential dinner but after smelling Chris's trainers and then having a peck at my big toe (slightly tastier, I would imagine :) the little bird left us in search of more appropriate cuisine.
