Student project proposal:

Service discovery in Bluetooth scatternets

Bluetooth units

Suggested size

Master's Thesis/15ECTS project; workload: 20% theoretical/80% practical.

Objective

Demonstrate that service discovery can be integrated into Bluetooth scatternet middleware.

Goal

Design, implement and evaluate an extension of BEDNET that will provide service discovery in BEDNET.

Content

Bluetooth scatternets enable distantly located Bluetooth units to communicate via intermediate units. Bluetooth Enabled Device ad-hoc Network (BEDNET) is a piece of Java middleware providing basic connectivity for Java applications in a Bluetooth scatternet. It can run in J2ME on Bluetooth enabled mobile phones, supporting MIDlets, or in J2SE on Bluetooth-enabled laptops using the BlueCove libraries.

In this project, BEDNET should be extended with a discovery service and a number of demonstration services, e.g. Bluetooth services
