Become an IT researcher

If you dream about becoming an IT researcher, the IT University is the perfect place for you to start your career, whether you aim for a career as a researcher in a business or in the academic world.

The four MSc programmes offered by the IT University are very different in content, and so are the backgrounds of the students.

Some come with a bachelor in technology or science and often specialise in software development and technology. Others have a background in liberal arts or social science and are perhaps more interested in digital communication, games or e-business. And others have a professional bachelor's degree, are artists or something else entirely.
What they all have in common is that by choosing an education programme at the IT University, they have chosen to study in an environment where quality, an interdisciplinary approach and an international perspective are key elements of the education programmes.

Read more about the IT University’s MSc programmes, about admission requirements and the application procedure, and the MSc students’ everyday lives, profiles and career opportunities.

The IT University considers diversity a strength, and this applies to the backgrounds of our PhD students as well.

Some have purposively taken the beaten path through the education system while others already have a long professional career behind them or have grappled with other fields of study. Some of our PhD students have a traditional technical or computer science educational background and work with, e.g., creating and improving software or developing programs and systems that can handle large amounts of data. Others have a background in liberal arts or social science and analyse how we use technology and relate to it, and how it affects our everyday lives and our perception of the world around us. Vacant PhD positions at the IT University will be posted twice a year. Learn more about the PhD school’s website and read more on the IT University’s PhD programme.

If you want to become an IT researcher, a high academic level is of course essential – but your passion, your commitment and your drive for continued education and professional development throughout your career is equally important.
