Peter H. Carstensen
 Associate Professor
 The IT University of Copenhagen

Notice:
By the 1st of September 2007 I stopped at ITU. I will still be associated and have some minor obligations concerning PhD supervision, but apart from that I will continue my carrer outside of academia.

The information you can find on these pages therefore belong to the past ;-) It might not be updated!

I can still be reached on my ITU-mail: carstensen {at} itu {dot} dk. But it will not be checked on a daily basis!

For personal and private mails please use: peter {dot} h {dot} carstensen {at} gmail {dot} com.

In 2005 - 2006 I was Head of the Research Department at ITU. The department included all researchers at ITU, i.e., about 40 senior researchers, 45 PhD students, four administrative officers, plus a number part time supporters.

From 1999-2005 I was heading one of ITU's four research departments named Design and Use of Information Technology (DUIT). We conducted research on the interrelationships between the information technology, its users and their work practise, and on understanding and support of design and development of IT. DUIT included 20-25 senior and junior researchers.

My research interest is primarily related to conceptual and design oriented issues on Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW). Currently I’m interested in cooperative aspects of systems development and in mobile and work context aspects of cooperative work and how we can support these aspects by means of IT.

My teaching at ITU I has included giving courses within CSCW, HCI and Systems Development related topics. My main teaching activity over the eight years at ITU has been master thesis work supervision (more than 50 candidates), and PhD supervision.

Research Interests

·  Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW)

·  Work Analysis and Field studies

·  Methodologies for Systems Development

·  Human - Computer Interaction

• Before leaving ITU I was involved in a large program on interaction and collaboration among heterogenous groups of actors in the healthcare sector (see the HIT program).

• In 2004 to 2006 I was involved in Talent@IT, a project investigating what are the essential factors for organizations abilities to improve their systems development.

• From 2000 to 2004 I was heading a large project on Design of Interactive Web-Applications (DIWA) founded by the Danish Research Council's Program on Cross-Disciplinary Information Technology. The project addressed different aspects of Web technology as an IT platform for collaborative, distributed work, inside organizations (e.g., intranets) or between organizations (extranets).

• Over the last years I have also been involved in a number of projects addressing planning and collaboration support for autonomous groups of shop floor workers (see FASIT and IDAK).
